welcome to this week’s satellite cult dispatch. i’m so glad you’re here. i hope the artifacts i present you with will leave you stranded on Johnny Castaway’s island, forcing you to compete with him for resources. if you lose, your body will disintegrate and rematerialize in another universe as a flying toaster.
please be aware that the void dive section below contains flashing gifs.
you can find satellite cult updates and memes on Instagram, and you can visit your cult leader’s Neocities page here.
i write and research satellite cult each week because i love it, and it’s important to me that it remains free to read and subscribe. but if you want to give altar offerings for the time and labor i invest, you can support me on Ko-fi.
if you enjoy what you find here, like, share, and consider subscribing to satellite cult.

Slow Tapes
a spacey, sparkly ambient synthwave album by l y n x, Slow Tapes evokes both loneliness and wonder, like the perfect soundtrack to an 80s sci-fi classic on VHS.
SUMMER HEAT WAVE EP
summer’s coming to a muggy end in New York, but no one said you shouldn't squeeze as much as possible out of what’s left. this future funk EP by【Lost Anima】features chopping so seamless it’s smooth——it conjures a day at the beach or by the pool in the tradition of the anime beach episode trope.
THE 10 YEAR JOURNEY
a classic vapor release by [ [ [ H O N D A ] ] ] 本 田 技 研 工 業 株 式 会 社, THE 10 YEAER JOURNEY spins a narrative around a Honda documentary that was “rumored to have been destroyed in the Sunset Incident exactly 10 years ago.” it’s a strong addition to the small and under-explored corner of vaporwave dedicated to the aesthtics of consumer vehicles from the 80s and 90s, and does it with an Unsolved Mysteries twist.
M@rg@ritaville
this half memeified post-eccojams tribute to the late great mayor of Margaritaville scratches a wild nostalgic itch, drawing out memories of sitting in the back seat of a wood-paneled 1991 Dodge Caravan as my parents blasted Jimmy Buffett’s greatest hits.
S2E2 [HOME: DAY-ARC (1)] Room Entrance and What The...?!?! You’ve Been So Lazy All These Days?!?
sparkling, hexdibent noise by Anime break TV Receptor, an alias of Roxy Radclyffe, overwhelms the senses in this mix, pounding layers and layers of audio into one mass of blurry pixels and old doujin websites with 18+ sections in their nav bars. the result is a stream of sound, images, and consciousness that conveys what it means to feel both your most alone and your most alive behind a keyboard, typing out furious replies to forum posts while a fansubbed episode of Love Hina1 buffers in another window.
FASTFUSION
a compilation of Japanese hyperflip from net label Lost Frog Productions, FASTFUSION features some of the best music the genre has to offer right now.
constant transexual clusterfuck
constant transexual clusterfuck by #xspiltmilk/::, an alias of xX0L1V3xG4RD3N, is an anxious, shuddering, shock of dariacore noise as violent as it is forgiving.
88x31
in the past i’ve featured a few collections of 88x31 buttons from earlier eras of the web, but here’s a list of not only collections, but historic resources and tools as well:
International interior design
as i continued exploring retro design books, i came across International Interior Design (1991) by Lucy Bullivant, featuring some great retail and mall interiors from the late 80s and early 90s.
weather channel
i recently rediscovered this perfectly aesthetic vaporwave mix, featuring visuals from a 1994 Weather Channel broadcast.
